Back in May I wrote about how dumb people must be to fall for this IRS scam going around. Monday was my turn to get the "CALL". I listened intently as the recorded voice told me how I needed to call right away or risk being thrown in jail. Now maybe because I have owed taxes before I know that they do not call but send letters, but still you really have to be out of it to believe this. Anyway, I took down the number given and called them back. I'm not sure they all go to the same people but mine had such a bad accent I had a hard time not laughing. Hint number two. Even if the IRS did start calling to harass people I doubt they would out source it to India. I told the gentleman that I didn't want to be arrested and asked what I needed to do. He told me I needed to wire $7650 to a certain address within the next 15 minutes to stop any action. I then proceeded to tell him the following. I will send the money as directed as soon as I hang up. But I just wanted to make sure they had the right person first. Are you calling John Moron of kiss my ass avenue? I live in suck my dick Illinois and the phone number is 313-FUC-KYOU! It only took about 3 seconds before he hung up. I then dialed back and said I will be waiting for him outside his residence one day so be careful. The second thing is, nothing is going on with recording as I am still having fun doing other things.

Well its been over 3 months and I have not posted anything new. I have been busy pursuing all sorts of interests besides music and recording. This has taken quite a bit of my time away from here but I can't say as of right now I regret it. Have been worried about the election coming up and wondering if a small business like this has any room in the minds of whoever gets elected. I know Hillary says she's for small business but I just can't believe anything that comes out of her mouth. And of course Trump is known for taking small businesses and shutting them down by offering better prices with a larger company. I may just spend the rest of this summer riding my m/c and doing the other things I have been doing. Maybe November will bring more answers and a better idea of where this all may be headed.
This post has nothing to do with music. Well maybe 3%. As we were finishing up here today, we hopped on the internet to check what was happening. One story that caught our eye was about the new IRS scam. It said that scammers were calling people and telling them they owed taxes and should pay them by buying iTunes gift cards. WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!! Who could fall for a scam like this? I mean even the dumbest person walking this earth could not possibly think this was real! If you are dumb enough to fall for this scam, you should not be paying taxes as you are way to dumb to have a job.
Over the past couple of months we have lost some very talented artists. Being in the studio like I am I always admired George Martin and his work. So I was very sad to see him pass. I always thought as far as bass players go Chris Squire was in the top 5 in the world. So as with Martin I was sad to see him pass. Keith Emerson always amazed me and I was very surprised to see that he committed suicide. The band I was in back in the 70's did a lot of David Bowie covers so his passing was a real bummer. Today Prince passed away and I'm not really feeling anything about it. I'm not saying he wasnt talented, just not my taste music wise. So where am I going with this? All the coverage I have seen today is painting this guy as some genius composer. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard the word "shocking" when they mentioned his death I would have a nice sum to put in the bank. My thought on this is that all the people I mentioned above, to me anyway brought more to this world then Prince did. Yet the coverage for those mentioned above was nothing compared to what I'm hearing today. Really makes me wonder why people like Beiber, Spears, Fifty Cent, etc. as well as Prince are held in such high esteem in this music business. You don't hear much about the people that really started all this like BB King or Chuck Berry, etc. That of course is my thought and based on the coverage today, many people don't share those same thoughts. Oh well, to each his own.
Last blog I told you how I was going to try and listen and appreciate new and different music. Well I have to admit that my attitude is getting better at it. Still not thrilled about Rap, but am listening to some just to get the story telling stuff down. Still sounds like Dr. Suess to me. Am listening to more mellow sounds and wrapping my head around why this sound or group are considered good/bad, etc. I am now working on 3 projects with no real firm plan for any of them. They are as follows:
Old school recording using old mics and what ever is laying around. Going ok, but hard to adjust to the lower quality. Electronic/Dance music with some help from the MiniButters Some good old fashioned what ever pops into my head recording. If I like it, it will be good enough. Those are the 3 projects going on right now. Just going to shut everything down and go home now as its late and its Sunday. OK, I have to admit that Ableton and Launchpad are pretty cool. I have always been somewhat closed minded when it comes to music. I came close to liking electronic music when the Mini Butters did their first CD here. Never really got into it after that. Started to wonder why I have this thing about liking "other" types of music. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Im an arrogant a-hole that thinks my stuff is better then others. And the prime reason I hated most of these "other" bands was because they acted just like me. Thats right, I needed to look into the mirror to figure out that I disliked certain music because of the arrogance of their artists. The Mini Butters were down to earth people just looking for a way to get their ideas out to the public. No attitude, no "look at me" shit going on there. So now I am going to do the same and change my attitude and feel the same way about the music. Cant wait to see if this works.
The last post I complained about buying too many things thinking they would help my work flow. I also said I was trying to stop doing that. Well I think this is a lost cause as I just went out and got a Novation LaunchPad Pro. My only justification is, that it will help me get my electric music done faster when using Ableton.
I have a real bad habit of buying every little gadget that comes along. I always tell myself that this "whatever" will be the be all and end all of my music goals. That new guitar will make me play faster, the new DAW will be easier to write and record, etc. Well after starting this "old school" project I am finding out that a rummage sale may be in order. All those gadgets are just collecting dust while I get down to business and use all my old stuff. It might not turn out to be the most sonically sounding stuff on earth, but man it has a lot of soul.
First I would like to say that the old school recording has been going well. Have been using everything from my iPhone to old cassette recorders. Its a blast trying to get quality (at least in my head) sounds out of such dated products. That being said I must now rant and rave about why it has taken so long to write this. About 7 weeks ago my info from credit cards to email accounts started to act all goofy. Started getting calls from friends asking me why I would say this or that in my last email. The trouble was it was not me, it was someone who stole my info and was having fun fucking up my stuff. My credit cards were compromised but luckily I was able to get warnings before it got out of hand. I will find out who did this as I have several friends on both the side of the law and others who tend to break it. I will tie these pieces of shit to a chair and drive pins into their fucking eyeballs until they pass out. Then I will wake them up drill holes in their heads and piss down the holes. Thanks for listening and the recording will continue.
As promised, I am writing this blog post to say that I will be recording two new songs this weekend. I will be going old school using a Tascam DP-32SD and an old Casio keyboard. Will let you know the progress as it happens.
