The last time I posted here was back in May of 2018. No excuses for the delay, but maybe an explanation is in order. June thru September of 2018 saw a real lack of interest in any kind of recording or making music at all. Cant explain it, just happened that way. October saw some phone calls and a little interest in using the studio but nothing set in stone. For maybe the 3rd time in the life of this studio did I really consider closing up and going in a different direction. November turned into December and as is history for this place, it slowed down to nothing at all. I usually close the studio from about the 15th of December to about the 20th of January as everyone (myself included) wants to spend the holidays with friends and family. I decided to close on December 15th 2018 and stayed closed until just a few weeks ago. I'm not answering my phone or taking any reservations for any recording right now. It's not like Ive been getting tons of calls but I am starting to feel more like getting back into this. The studio is in the midst of being remodeled and things are all over the place. Hopefully the cleanup will be quick and I can get back into making music sometime in April or May. I'm going to try and post again real soon but right now no promises will be made.

The time has flown by once again. Its been almost 4 months since I put anything here. Been working on some stuff recording wise, but have been spending more time learning the Roli and playing guitar. To be honest the recording side of it has not been to interesting to me as of late. Im not sure if Im just in a slump or I really just don't give a shit anymore. I do know I need to get a fire lit under my ass and get recording again. To be fair to myself, I have been working with others on the Sound Trap platform. It is interesting to work with people you have never met and see what comes from it. Its a limited DAW but works well enough to get ideas down. Thats it for now, see you soon.
7 days in a row (weekends included) at the studio. Still learning the Role, still futzing with Bitwig. Decided to add more headaches by getting a copy of Waveform. This is a DAW that has been around for a little bit, but has not really hit hard. Most users would probably know it by the name Tracktion, but they changed that with the newest release. Feeling creative and motivated so I'm going to work hard to keep myself in this frame of mind.
Not a big country fan. But I did catch the very end of A country Christmas on ABC last week. Reba McIntire and LBT sang a song called Mary did you know. Made me cry as it was one of the most beautiful Christmas songs I ever heard. Anyway that motivated me to get back in here and set up a Roll Seaboard and Bitwig Studio. Getting a head start on 2018 so to speak. Anyway, I will keep you posted on the progress going on here as I have much learning to do in the coming weeks. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As the title implies, I am a lazy ass piece of shit. Last blog I stated I would be starting two new projects. Didn't start either of them. Why? Because I'm a lazy ass piece of shit. I'm not going to make a New Years resolution per say, but I'm putting this down on paper to remind me. 2018 will be the year I get at least 2 new albums of my own stuff out to the public. Hopefully 2018 will have me recording other artists, but of course I have no control over that. I am also starting a book and a You Tube and Twitter channel called Shy Gunner 2016. Those will deal with one of my most favorite hobbies, GUNS! I hope this year will get my lazy ass moving forward as I am not getting any younger. That being said, I am closing this place up for the remainder of 2017, so I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Will be starting a new project shortly. Well actually two projects. I just got done watching a movie about the Beach Boys. I never did understand the fascination for this group. There were plenty of "surf" bands around that in my opinion were much better then these guys. I also never understood their album Pet Sounds being considered as the best album ever made. Again, a ton of albums released at that time that were much better. That being said what really amazed me was the amount of crap Brian Wilson was allowed to do. It was even made fun of in the Dewey Cox story. How is this guy considered a genius? So anyway, I decided that in that vain I was going to make an album full of songs that will be complete gibberish. No meaning, no reason or rhyme, just music that makes no sense. The second project will be a traditional Christmas album done with my own take on the music. Now before you Beach Boy fans get your surf boards in a bunch and write nasty things to me, remember this. I do like some of the Beach Boy songs. I thought they had a very unique sound singing wise. Along the lines of the Four Seasons and such. I started not liking them when they started this layer after layer of sounds that did not fit into the song. So please wait for my gibberish album to come out and then give me crap about it, if you think it does not mimic the gibberish that became Pet Sounds.
I would like to say I'm sorry for my last post. I got a little carried away with anger and bitterness. Trying to make a living and supporting my family should not be the top priority in my life. I should be content to wait around and hope that I will be graced by some of the mentioned in the last posts artists to allow me to record them when they see fit. Ok, I have to stop. I tried to get thru this but can't. My last post holds. KISS MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So it was back in MAY that I posted something here. Hers the scoop from the last couple of months. NOTHING, ZIP, ZERO, NADA, GOOSE EGG. Everybody again jumped the ship and left me hanging. This happened before and I stated I was going to worry about projects I want to do. Then these artists came back and smooth talked me back into the business again. NO MORE! They can all kiss my ass, eat shit and die. I will not let this shit happen to me again, as my nice guy persona has taken a leave of absence and has no return ticket available. My projects, my way, and done to my liking with no input from anybody else. I know musicians are a strange bunch, I know they mean no harm when they cancel studio time. But really folks, I have a life I could be living if I was not waiting for you piece of shit cocksuckers to make up your minds as to your futures. The two exceptions to this list are J.J. Jambles, as he was lucky enough to get a tour across the pond. The second is The Minibutters as they ran into some financial trouble due to a manager who thought he was entitled to much more then he was. I will work with these two anytime they want and would be honored to have my name on their projects. The rest of you can suck my dick and choke on my huge load of cum shooting down your egotistical throats. Please pass the Tylenol.
Last post I mentioned a nifty little thing called Soundtrap. Its a Google app that gives you some pretty powerful tools for a smaller DAW. I would put it on par with Garageband, but its sound quality is sometimes lacking. I'm going to work with a little more and see what can be done about the quality. It is perfect for getting down quick ideas and making a quick demo. Other then that bit of news J.J. Gambles is still working on stuff and I got a phone call from the J's that they might be stopping by for some recording time.
Been pretty busy here at the studio. Realized I was starting to fall into the "not writing here" routine again so....
J.J. Jambles has been recording for about a month now, and progress is going slow but sure. We took a break from recording one day and watched both Blues Brothers films. Mr. Jambles was really taken with the opening song that he's working on his own version now. Was told about a neat little thing called Soundtrap available on Google. Thought I would try it out to see how it works. For the price and the size it really is an amazing program. If you get a chance check it out. We did take last week off for the Holiday and general maintenance, but we are back up and running. Will keep you posted as things progress. |
